Silica is also known as silica or quartz sand. Silica sand is kind of silicate minerals with hard, wear-resistant, stable chemical properties. It is used in glass, casting, ceramics and refractories, metallurgy, construction, chemicals, plastics, rubber, abrasive and other industries.

 

How to get silica sand with high quality and high purity?

The process of silica sand processing plant is crushing, grading, washing for dust removal and impurity removal functions. For high purity silica sand,  some high-purity extraction method such as flotation, magnetic separation etc is required too.

1.Crushing process

In the entire stone crushing line, it will be two or three stage crushing process. Jaw crusher is used to crush the raw quartz rock to smaller size in primary crushing stage. Then, the coarsely crushed quartz is transferred by the belt conveyor to secondary crusher for further crushing. The high-performance VSI sand making machine adopts two kinds of crushing principles. The high-depth crushing cavity keep large particles obtain sufficient crushing force. The entrance can control the fineness of the sand to meet the special requirements of the user for sand, which is far superior to natural sand. In the whole crushing process, the material is not directly contacting the metal parts, but affected by the friction and crushing of the lining, which reduces pollution and improves the quality of sand.

2.Screening process

The circular vibrating screen is equipped in the sand production line to screen out qualified sand. In crushing plant, the quartz lumps that are not broken enough are screened out by the vibrating screen and returned to crush again. The Silica sand that meets the particle size requirements will enter the subsequent process.

3.Scrubbing process

Scrubbing is to remove the thin film iron and muddy impurities on the surface of silica sand. In this scrubbing process, unconsolidated mineral aggregates could be removed by mechanical force and the abrasive force between the sand grains.

4.Washing and desliming process

Artificial sand contains a certain amount of stone powder and mud powder, and the violent collision during stone processing, a large amount of stone powder will seriously affect sand quality. Therefore, it is very necessary to wash and deslime the quartz sand ore before being selected. Sand washing and desliming process is necessary in purifying and impurities removing by cleaning the silica sand. With different washing method, it has wheel sand washing machine, screw washing machine, sand desliming machine etc. The washing degree is very high. The sand particles cleaned by the sand washing machine are clean, pressure-resistant, corrosion-resistant, and better quality.

5.Other further process

After sand washing process, to get high purity silica sand, magnetic separator, flotation machine etc is need too. Wet strong magnetic separator is often used to remove limonite, tourmaline, hematite etc in magnetic separation process. Flotation cell is used to separate mica using anionic collector under acidic conditions. Generally, after scrubbing, desilting, magnetic separation, and flotation, the purity of silica sand can reach more than 99%, which basically meets the needs of industrial sand.
