The Impact Crushing And Screening Plant Solution for Russian Basalt

Project Overview:

A basalt quarry in Russia's cold region faced two conflicting demands: produce cubic-shaped aggregate for asphalt and concrete mixes, and do it without building a fixed plant in a deposit spread across multiple benches. Basalt is hard and abrasive (Mohs 5–6+), but the client's target product required the superior particle shape that only an impact crusher can deliver efficiently. In 2025, they deployed a Baichy YMC12S crawler type mobile impact crusher plant, configured with a GZD1135 vibrating feeder, CI1213 impact crusher, 2YK1436 vibrating screen, return conveyor, and finished product belt — powered by a dual-power (diesel + electric) system. The plant now delivers 180–250 t/h of well-shaped 0–40 mm basalt aggregate, operating reliably through winter conditions down to -35℃.

The Challenge:

Russia's Far East and Siberian regions hold vast basalt deposits. However processing this hard material in Russia's extreme climate presents formidable challenges. Winter temperatures plunge to -40°C, freezing hydraulic systems and making steel brittle. Quarry faces are scattered across remote, roadless terrain. Fixed crushing plants require expensive concrete foundations, take months to builde. The YMC12S tracked mobile impact crusher plant has emerged as a proven solution for these demanding conditions.

The YMC12S: Complete Closed-Circuit Mobile Crushing Plant

The YMC12S is a self-contained, track-mounted impact crushing and screening plant specifically engineered for medium-hardness and hard rock applications. Its closed-circuit design integrates all essential components into one mobile unit, enabling single-machine production of finished aggregates without the need for additional screening or conveying equipment.

1. GZD1135 Vibrating Feeder: Variable-frequency drive controls feed rate in real time; integrated grizzly pre-screens fines to reduce impact wear and improve crusher efficiency..

2. CI1213 Impact Crusher (Host): Heavy-duty 4-bar rotor delivers cubical product via three-stage crushing. Hydraulic chamber opening enables fast blow-bar change and inspection. High-chrome blow bars handle abrasive basalt.

3. 2YK1436 Vibrating Screen:2-deck screen classifies product into 0–5 / 5–20 / 20–40 mm. Oversize directed to return conveyor for closed-circuit re-crush.

4. Return Conveyor: Adjustable-speed belt returns oversize material to crusher feed, ensuring all product meets top-size specification.

5. Finished Product Belt Conveyor: Adjustable discharge height for truck loading or radial stockpiling of 0–40 mm final aggregate.

6. Dual-Power System (Diesel + Electric): Diesel drives crawler travel and auxiliary systems; electric powers crusher, feeder, screen, and conveyors when grid power is available. Seamless switch between modes maximizes uptime in remote or power-limited sites.

Key Advantages of This Mobile Stone Crushing Plant

1. Tracked Mobility vs. Fixed Infrastructure. The YMC12S's crawler chassis eliminates concrete foundations and civil works, enabling rapid deployment and relocation as the quarry face advances to minimize haul distances. Once a site is depleted, the plant can be redeployed to a new location, preserving capital value.

2. CI1213 Performance in Basalt. The CI1213 impact crusher delivers consistent 180–250 t/h throughput in basalt, producing a well-graded, cubical product that meets Russian and international construction specifications. High-chrome blow bars achieve 3–4 months of service life between changes under normal feeding conditions, with hydraulic chamber opening reducing downtime for wear-part swaps.

3. Efficient Screening and Product Quality Control. The integrated 2YK1436 vibrating screen and return conveyor system ensured accurate particle size separation and stable final product quality. The customer was able to produce aggregates meeting local construction requirements.

Maintenance & Wear-Cost Management for Basalt

Basalt is abrasive. The client implemented:
   ● Scheduled blow-bar inspections every 150–200 running hours
   ● Hydraulic chamber opening for fast access — blow-bar change completed within half a shift
   ● Screen deck inspection every 2 weeks;
   ● Return conveyor belt alignment check weekly to prevent mistracking
   ● With these practices, the plant maintained > 90% availability through summer and winter seasons.

"The YMC12S gives us the cubic shape our asphalt clients demand, and the crawler chassis means we just walk the plant to the next face. The dual-power system kept us running even when grid power was intermittent."
— Plant Manager, Russian Basalt Quarry (name withheld per NDA)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Find answers to the most common questions about Baichy Machinery. If you can’t find what you’re looking for here, please contact us.

1. Can an impact crusher handle basalt (hard, abrasive rock)?

TYes. While basalt is abrasive, the CI1213 impact crusher with high-chrome blow bars (or ceramic-insert options) processes basalt effectively, delivering superior particle shape compared to jaw or cone. Regular blow-bar inspection and timely replacement control wear cost.

2. What capacity does the YMC12S impact plant deliver?

The CI1213 impact crusher typically delivers 180–250 t/h depending on feed size, CSS, and material characteristics. The full closed-circuit YMC12S plant produces 0–40 mm finished aggregate at this rate.

3. How does the dual-power system work?

The plant can run on external electric power (grid or generator) for lower operating cost, or switch to diesel engine power for mobility and remote operation. The transition is seamless, maximizing uptime.

4. Does the YMC12S require a concrete foundation?

No. The crawler chassis allows the plant to be walked into position, leveled, and put into production after setup — no poured foundation needed.
