Gyratory crusher and cone crusher are common crushing equipment for mining. They have similarities in structure and principle. Today we will learn the difference between Gyratory crusher and cone crusher, and then choose suitable one according to actual needs.

Cone Crusher Introduction

Cone crusher is mainly used for secondary crushing of materials with high hardness. The design of hydraulic protection and automatic cavity cleaning greatly reduces downtime and improves operating efficiency. The production capacity can reach about 700 tons per hour, and the feed particle size does not exceed 300mm. The range of the discharge opening is between 3-50mm, which can be adjusted arbitrarily according to the needs.
Cone crusher is not suitable for crushing viscous ore, and the particle shape of the crushed stone is not very good. If the requirements for the finished stone particle shape are high, it is necessary to configure a stone shaping machine

Gyratory Crusher Introduction

Gyratory crusher is mainly used for primary coarse crushing of materials. The crushing process is carried out continuously along the circular crushing chamber, so the productivity is high, the power consumption is low, and the work is stable; raw materials can be directly poured into the feed port from the transportation tool. , no need to set up a feeder; but the structure of the gyratory breaker is complex, so it is more difficult to overhaul, and the repair cost is more expensive. The fuselage is high, and there are requirements for the height of the operating workshop.

Difference Between Gyratory And Cone Crusher1

The difference between the cone crusher and the gyratory crusher will be explained in detail from four aspects: crushing cavity shape, the suspension method of the moving cone, feeding and output size, and method of adjusting the discharge port.

1. Shape of crushing chamber

The fixed and movable cones of cone crusher are both gently inclined and upright cones, and there is a certain length of parallel crushing area between the two cones, in order to control the particle size requirements of the ore products;
The cones shape of gyratory crusher is sharply inclined, the movable cone is upright, and the fixed cone is an inverted truncated cone, which is mainly to increase the feeding material size.

2.Mantle travels speed

The difference between gyratory crusher and cone crusher is the speed that the mantle travels while crushing ores. Mantel speed of gyrator crusher revolves at 100-200 R.P.M. While the Secondary and the Tertiary cone crusher’s travels between 500-600 R.P.M. This difference in the speed results in a hammering type crushing action over the squeezing type employed by the primary gyratory crusher.

3. Moving cone suspension method

The movable cone of the cone crusher is supported on spherical bearings; the movable cone of the gyratory crusher is suspended on the beam above the equipment.

4. Feeding/discharging size

The feed particle size of the gyratory crusher is ≤1300mm, and the adjustment range of the discharge port is 152-305mm.
The feed particle size of the cone crusher is ≤450mm, and the adjustment range of the discharge port is 3-64mm.

5. Adjust the way of discharge port

The cone crusher adjusts the height of the fixed cone to adjust the width of the discharge port; the gyratory crusher changes the size of the discharge port by adjusting the rise or fall of the movable cone.

Difference Between Gyratory And Cone Crusher3

To sum up, cone crushers and gyratory crushers have their own advantages and disadvantages. Before choosing equipment, you must be clear about your material properties and production requirements, and choose suitable crushing equipment, so that the crushing production line can achieve twice the result with half the effort.

People also frequently Asked Questions- FAQ

1.What is the difference between jaw crusher and cone crusher?

The jaw crusher is mainly used for primary crushing, and the crushed stone is relatively large. Stones with size 1500mm could be crushed to stones with a diameter of less than 100mm for next crushing stage. Cone crushers are used for crushing medium-sized stones fragment, and are mostly used for secondary crushing.

2.What is the different between jaw crusher and gyratory crusher?

Both the gyratory crusher and the jaw crusher are used for primary crushing equipment in sand and gravel aggregates production plant. They are similar in function but different in overall dimension, capacity and cost.

3.Which type of stone crusher is best?

Compression-style jaw, cone, impact crushers, and gyratory crushers are most often appropriate as primary crushing equipment types, though there can be overlap between primary and secondary crushers as far as suitable types.
