River stone, or pebbles, is a widely available and hard raw material, ideal for producing durable construction materials. A leading aggregate supplier in the Philippines aimed to establish a new plant to capitalize on this demand. Their goal was to process river stones into high-quality aggregates and manufactured sand (M-Sand) that could serve as a sustainable alternative to increasingly scarce and expensive natural river sand.
Processing river stone presents unique challenges. River stones are naturally rounded and highly abrasive, which causes rapid wear on crusher components, leading to high maintenance costs and downtime if unsuitable equipment is used. Simply crushing the stone is not enough. The final aggregates need a good, cubicle shape for high-strength concrete, and the sand must meet strict grading standards. The client's primary goal was to produce a significant proportion of high-quality M-Sand to replace natural sand, which requires specialized equipment for shaping and grading.

The plant was configured with a logical 3-stage crushing and screening circuit to ensure high efficiency and product quality.
As the primary crusher, the robust PE600x900 takes the large raw river stones (up to 500mm) and performs the first round of size reduction. Its strong structure and deep crushing chamber are ideal for handling hard and abrasive materials, breaking them down to a smaller size (around 100-150mm) for the next stage.
Function: This is the critical component for handling abrasiveness. The cone crusher operates on the principle of laminating crushing (squeezing rocks between a mantle and a concave), which produces less wear than impact crushing and is perfectly suited for hard, abrasive river stone. The CH430 further crushes the material to prepare a fine feed (around 40mm) for the sand maker. Its single-cylinder design allows for easy automation and hydraulic adjustment of the discharge setting.
Function: This is the core of the M-Sand production line. The VSI (Vertical Shaft Impact) crusher uses a "rock-on-rock" or "rock-on-iron" crushing principle. It takes the aggregates from the cone crusher and reshapes them, breaking the stones by impacting them with each other. This process produces perfectly cubicle-shaped aggregates and high-quality, well-graded manufactured sand with excellent particle shape.
Function: The triple-deck 3YK2160 screen is responsible for precise product classification. It separates the crushed material into multiple final product sizes (e.g., 0-5mm sand, 5-10mm, 10-20mm, and 20-31.5mm aggregates). Oversized material is recirculated back to the appropriate crusher, ensuring a closed-circuit system that maximizes efficiency and product quality.

1. Optimized for Abrasive Material: The combination of a jaw crusher and a cone crusher for primary and secondary crushing minimizes wear costs, making the line highly durable for processing river stone.
2. Superior Final Product Quality: The VSI9526 sand maker ensures the final aggregates and sand have an excellent cubicle shape, which enhances the strength of concrete.
3. High-Quality M-Sand Production: The plant effectively solves the problem of natural sand shortage by producing in-spec M-Sand, a more sustainable and higher-quality alternative.
4. Automated and Efficient: The single-cylinder cone crusher allows for easy setting adjustment and automation, contributing to a stable and efficient operation with minimal downtime.
