Gold Leaching CIL/CIP Plant: A Professional & Simple Guide

Gold Leaching CIL (Carbon-In-Leach) and CIP (Carbon-In-Pulp) plants are the most widely used technologies for extracting gold fromfine-grained gold ores. Both processes combine cyanide leaching (dissolving gold) with activated carbon adsorption (recovering dissolved gold)—offering high recovery rates and operational simplicity. While they share core principles, their key difference lies in process sequence: CIL integrates leaching and adsorption, while CIP separates them.

 

Both CIL and CIP rely on two foundational steps—**cyanide leaching** and **carbon adsorption**—to extract gold:  

● CIL (Carbon-In-Leach): Activated carbon is added directly to the leach tanks. Leaching (dissolving gold) and adsorption (capturing gold) happen *simultaneously* in the same tanks.  

● CIP (Carbon-In-Pulp): Leaching occurs first in dedicated tanks. After gold is dissolved, the ore pulp is sent to separate adsorption tanks where activated carbon is added.  

In short: CIL = “Leach + Adsorb Together”; CIP = “Leach First, Adsorb Later.”

Key Equipment &Processes of a Gold CIL/CIP Plants :

  • Gold ball mill

    1.Crushing & Grinding: Expose Gold Particles 

     

    Gold is often locked in ore, so the first step is to break it down::

    ● Crushing:  Jaw crushers (primary) and cone crushers (secondary) reduce large ore chunks (500–800mm) to 20–30mm. 

    ● Grinding: Ball mills grind the crushed ore into a fine pulp (200–400 mesh). This ensures gold particles (1–20 μm) are fully exposed for leaching.

    2. Leaching & Adsorption Section (The CIL/CIP Circuit Core)

     

    Objective: To dissolve the gold and recover it from the slurry.  Key Equipment We Provide:

    ● Agitated Leaching Tanks (CIL/CIP Tanks): A series of large, robust tanks with agitators to keep the slurry mixed. Cyanide and oxygen are added here to dissolve the gold.

    ● Inter-screen Screens:  Specialized screens that retain the activated carbon within each tank while allowing the slurry to flow through.

    ● Carbon Transfer Pumps: For moving loaded carbon to the elution plant.

    3.Carbon Elution & Electrowinning Section

     

    Objective: To strip the gold from the loaded carbon and produce a solid gold product. Key Equipment We Provide:

    ● Carbon Elution Column:  Where high-temperature and pressure strip the gold from the carbon into a small volume of concentrated solution.

    ● Electrowinning Cell: An electrolytic cell where an electric current plates the gold from the concentrated solution onto steel wool cathodes.

    ● Acid Wash Column:  For cleaning and reactivating the carbon before it is recycled back to the CIL/CIP circuit.

    4.Smelting & Final Product

     

    Objective: To melt the gold sludge from electrowinning into a pure, marketable gold bar. Key Equipment We Provide:

    ● Induction Smelting Furnace: A high-temperature furnace where the gold is melted with fluxes to remove impurities, producing a high-purity gold bar.
