About 150 tph Granite Crusher and Sand Making Plant in East Africa

This case study details a high-performance 150-ton-per-hour granite crushing and sand making plant established in East Africa. Designed to support regional infrastructure development, this plant goes beyond simple aggregate production by integrating a sand maker to produce high-quality manufactured sand. The robust configuration includes a Vibrating Grizzly Feeder,  Jaw Crusher, Single-Cylinder Hydraulic Cone Crusher, VSI Sand Making Machine, and Vibrating Screens to create a versatile and efficient production line.

Granite is one of the hardest and most abrasive rock types, posing significant challenges for crushing equipment and wear parts. The aggregates needed to be cubical and the sand needed the correct gradation for optimal performance in concrete mix designs. The plant required robust and reliable equipment to ensure consistent production in a region where minimizing downtime is critical for project timelines. Baichy proposed this three-stage-crushing plant with most dural crushing equipment.

The Crushing Line Configuration & Equipment Introduction

This advanced three-stage crushing circuit is specifically engineered to tackle the challenges of granite, producing both aggregates and sand efficiently.

1.  Primary Crushing: Jaw Crusher PE600x900

A robust PE600x900 Jaw Crusher serves as the primary crusher. With a large feed opening of 600x900mm, it is perfectly capable of reducing large granite boulders (up to ~500mm) to a smaller size (around 150-200mm). Its simple and sturdy design ensures reliable performance under the high-stress conditions of primary granite crushing.

2. Secondary Crushing: Cone Crusher CH430

The crushed material from the jaw crusher is conveyed to the CH430 Single-Cylinder Hydraulic Cone Crusher. This stage is critical for further reducing the granite and shaping the aggregate. The CH430 cone crusher is renowned for its high efficiency and excellent particle shape output. Its hydraulic system allows for easy adjustment and automation, providing precise control over the product size.

3. Tertiary Crushing / Sand Making: Vertical Shaft Impact Crusher VSI9526

The heart of the sand production line is the VSI9526 Vertical Shaft Impact (VSI) Crusher. This sand maker takes the material from the cone crusher and uses a "rock-on-rock" crushing principle to produce a well-shaped, cubical final product. It is exceptionally effective at producing high-quality manufactured sand that meets strict industrial standards.

4. Screening and Classification: Two Vibrating Screens

Two vibrating screens work in tandem to classify the materials. The first screen separates the crushed aggregates into different sizes after the cone crusher. The second screen is dedicated to sizing the final sand product from the VSI crusher. This dual-screen setup ensures high screening efficiency, precise product grading, and a closed-circuit system that maximizes yield.

Key Advantages of Granite Crusher Plant 150tph

1.Optimized for Hard Rock: The combination of a robust jaw crusher, a high-efficiency cone crusher, and a specialized VSI crusher is the ideal setup for processing extremely hard and abrasive granite.

2. High-Quality Sand Production: The inclusion of the VSI9526 allows the plant to produce premium manufactured sand, adding significant value and meeting a critical market need.

3. Superior Particle Shape: Both the cone crusher and the VSI crusher contribute to producing aggregates with excellent cubicity, which enhances the strength and durability of concrete.

4. Efficient and Automated Operation: The hydraulic adjustment of the CH430 cone crusher and the precise control of the VSI9526 allow for a high degree of automation, leading to stable operation and consistent product quality.

1. Why is a cone crusher necessary after a jaw crusher for granite?

Granite is very hard and abrasive. While a jaw crusher is excellent for primary reduction, a cone crusher is far more efficient for secondary crushing of such materials. It provides a finer reduction and, most importantly, produces a superior, well-shaped aggregate that is essential for high-value applications. Using an impact crusher for secondary crushing on granite would result in extremely high wear costs.

2. Why are two vibrating screens used in this configuration?

Using two screens increases the screening efficiency and capacity of the plant. It allows for better separation of multiple product sizes and reduces the load on a single screen, preventing bottlenecks and ensuring a consistent, high-quality final product. It also provides redundancy; if one screen needs maintenance, the plant can still operate at a reduced capacity.

3. What is the difference between Cone Crusher and Impact Crusher?

Their crushing principles and purposes differ. The CH430 is a compression-style crusher that squeezes rock between a mantle and concave, ideal for producing well-shaped coarse aggregates. The VSI9526 is an impact crusher that uses high-speed rotor impact to break rock, primarily for shaping particles and producing fine aggregates (sand). They are complementary in this flow.

4. What is the difference between aggregates and manufactured sand?

Aggregates are the coarse crushed stone (e.g., 5-10mm, 10-20mm) used in concrete and road base. Manufactured Sand (M-Sand) is the fine aggregate (0-5mm) produced by the VSI crusher. Its cubical shape and controlled gradation make it a superior, high-performance replacement for natural river sand.
