About Robust Crushing Line for Railway Ballast Production In Kenya

Project Overview:

In Kenya's rapidly developing infrastructure landscape, the demand for high-quality railway ballast is consistently high. Ballast, the crushed stone layer beneath railway tracks, is crucial for distributing load and providing drainage. This real case of Baichy Machinery  explores a highly efficient and cost-effective 50 TPH (Tons Per Hour) ballast production line, a popular choice for Kenyan contractors and quarry owners.

The Challenge:

The primary challenge in ballast production is not just crushing rock, but producing aggregates that meet specific size and shape specifications. The particles must be cubical, strong, and angular to interlock properly, ensuring track stability. A simple hammer crusher, for instance, might produce excessive flaky or elongated particles, which are unsuitable. Furthermore, operational costs, equipment reliability, and the ability to handle local hard rocks like basalt and granite are critical factors for profitability in the Kenyan market. We propose a two-stage crushing plant for client.

The Solution: A Two-Stage Jaw Crusher with Screening Line

The proposed stone crushing plant solution by Baichy Machinery is a well-proven configuration consisting of a primary jaw crusher, a secondary fine jaw crusher, and a multi-layer vibrating screen. This setup is designed for optimal performance and product control.

1. Primary Jaw Crusher: PE400x600

● Function: This is the workhorse of the line, responsible for the primary size reduction of large raw stones (up to 350mm) from the quarry.
● Key Features: Its robust structure and simple design ensure high reliability and low maintenance. The PE400x600 model offers a perfect balance between feed size, capacity, and power consumption, making it ideal for a 50TPH plant. It crushes the large rocks down to about 50-100mm.

2. Secondary Fine Jaw Crusher: PEX250x1200

● Function: This crusher takes the discharge from the primary crusher and further refines it. Its role is crucial for shaping the final product and producing the cubical aggregates required for ballast.
● Key Features: The PEX series fine jaw crusher has a smaller discharge opening, allowing for precise control over the final product size. It effectively crushes the smaller rocks into the desired ballast specifications, improving the overall product shape.

3. Vibrating Screen: 4YK1237

● Function: This is the quality control center of the production line. The 4-layer vibrating screen efficiently separates the crushed material into different sizes.
● Key Features: The top layers scalp off oversized rocks, which are sent back to the secondary crusher for re-crushing (forming a closed circuit). The middle layers isolate the perfectly sized ballast product (e.g., 20-40mm). The bottom layer removes fine dust and sand, which can be sold as a by-product. This ensures 100% of the final product meets the strict ballast standards.

Key Advantages of 50tph Stone Crusher Plant

1. High-Quality End Product: The combination of two-stage jaw crushing produces optimally shaped, cubical ballast stones with excellent interlocking properties.
2. Stable & Reliable Operation: Jaw crushers are known for their durability and simple maintenance, which is vital in areas where technical support might be limited.
3. Cost-Effectiveness: This configuration offers a lower initial investment compared to cone crusher-based lines and has lower wear parts costs over its lifetime.
4. Flexibility: The 4-layer screen allows for precise classification. By adjusting the screen meshes, the plant can also produce other aggregate sizes (e.g., 0-5mm, 5-20mm) for concrete and road construction, maximizing profitability.
5. Ideal Capacity: The 50TPH capacity is perfectly suited for medium-scale projects and quarries, meeting the demands of national and regional railway projects in Kenya.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Find answers to the most common questions about Baichy Machinery. If you can’t find what you’re looking for here, please contact us.

1. How much is a stone crusher in Kenya?

The stone crusher price in Kenya can vary significantly based on several factors, including the stone crusher types ( jaw crusher, impact crusher, cone crusher etc), brand origin (Chinese, European), supplier, and included services (shipping, installation), crusher plant configuration. For this 50tph stone crusher plant, the price range is from $55,000 and $95,000 USD

2. How many people are needed to operate the plant?

A well-designed line like this can be efficiently operated by 2-3 people: one for the excavator/feeder and 1-2 for monitoring the crushers and the final product.

3. What is the maintenance schedule?

Regular daily checks (lubrication, bolt tightening) and periodic inspection of wear parts (jaw plates) are essential. The main wear parts (jaw plates) typically need replacement every 3-6 months, depending on the rock abrasiveness.

4. How is the final product size controlled?

The final product size is primarily controlled by the discharge opening of the secondary PEX250x1200 jaw crusher and the screen mesh sizes on the 4YK1237 vibrating screen. The closed-circuit design, where oversized material is recirculated back to the secondary crusher, ensures that all output conforms to the required specifications.
